BODIE, California


The "Best Preserved Ghost Town" in the Western US is Bodie, California. The park is northeast of Yosemite and 13 miles east of Highway 395 on Bodie Road (HWY 270). The road to Bodie is between the towns of Lee Vining to the south and Bridgeport to the north. The town is at an elevation of 8,374' above sea level and visitors can easily become out of breath. Make sure you bring something to eat and drink as there is no food available.

Make sure you visit the Bodie Museum. You can also take a tour of the Standard Mill by getting tickets at the museum. Tours of the mill are included with your entry fee and are at 12 noon and 2 PM. You can receive more information about Bodie and operating hours by calling 760-647-6447.
